Understand the problem before choosing the repair.
These answers explain the principles behind damp, mould, waterproofing, timber, structural and finishing work. A general answer cannot replace an assessment of the property.

Moisture and materials
How do I know which property-care service I need?
Start with the visible signs, location and timing rather than choosing a product. Damp, condensation, leaks, timber defects and failed finishes can overlap and may require different checks.
Can a moisture meter diagnose rising damp?
A meter reading is one piece of information, not a complete diagnosis. Construction, salt patterns, ground levels, rainwater defects, plumbing and internal humidity may also need consideration.
Why does mould keep returning?
Recurring mould often indicates persistent surface condensation, insufficient ventilation, low surface temperature or moisture generation. Cleaning the visible mould does not remove the underlying conditions.
Is a chemical damp-proof course always required?
No. An injected DPC is relevant only in suitable masonry where rising damp has been reasonably established. It will not resolve condensation, rain penetration, plumbing leaks or below-ground water pressure.
What is the difference between waterproofing and damp proofing?
Damp proofing generally manages moisture movement through above-ground construction. Waterproofing and basement systems are designed for more demanding water ingress or below-ground exposure.
Will plaster need to be removed?
That depends on moisture, salts, adhesion, contamination and the chosen repair system. Sound compatible plaster may sometimes remain; damaged or salt-affected material may require replacement.
Repairs and enquiries
How long does a wall take to dry?
Drying depends on wall thickness, material, initial moisture, ventilation, temperature and finishes. Decoration should follow the repair specification rather than a fixed universal timetable.
Can you treat timber without fixing the moisture source?
A durable timber repair normally requires the moisture source and ventilation conditions to be addressed. Chemical treatment alone does not compensate for an ongoing leak or persistently wet construction.
When should cracking be assessed by a structural engineer?
Cracks that are significant, changing, recurrent or accompanied by movement, distortion or sticking openings may need structural assessment before cosmetic repair.
Do you work on older solid-wall buildings?
Older and traditionally constructed buildings need particular attention to permeability, existing finishes and moisture behaviour. The specification should suit the actual construction.
What should I include with my enquiry?
Send the postcode, property type, affected room or elevation, photographs, when the issue appears and any previous repairs or reports.
Do you cover London?
Yes. Send the property postcode so coverage, travel and access can be confirmed for the specific enquiry.
Still unsure where to start?
Describe what you can see and when it happens. We will help direct the enquiry to the most useful service or assessment route.
